About Us
SMAOCT is an organization that represents and organizes the State Marshals throughout Connecticut.
We are organized though AFSCME Connecticut Council 4 as Local 2193.
Connecticut State Marshals serve all court documents and legal process in the State of CT as peace officers appointed to work in the eight counties of Connecticut. State Marshals are an integral part of the judicial system as they serve the public, providing essential notice and the constitutional right of due process to parties in court proceedings.
State Marshals serve legal process such as: summonses and complaints, restraining orders, civil protective orders, subpoenas, and family court proceedings. Additionally we enforce civil judgments, seize property, conduct residential and commercial evictions, and assist municipalities with tax collection through tax warrants. State Marshals have arrest authority and execute civil arrests under bench warrants and capias mittimus warrants.
Our members are committed to strengthening and improving the vital role State Marshals have in Connecticut's legal system. We support and serve in every community across Connecticut.
